From the author

Why I created the book

For more than 20 years — including over a decade in management — I've hired and trained countless servers. Again and again I hear, “We’ve never had games like this before.” The Server Game Book turns basic sales contests into engaging, ever-changing games that channel servers’ natural competitiveness into better selling, stronger teamwork, and shifts people actually look forward to.

We’ve never had games like this before.

Set it up

  1. 01Use the enclosed match cards.
  2. 02Mix the pairs and place them face down in rows on a board using tape.
  3. 03Write the menu items you want to promote.
  4. 04Write the servers' names on the board.

How to play

  1. 01Each time a server sells an item from the promotion list, they may turn over and look at two cards.
  2. 02If the cards do not match, return them face down in the same locations.
  3. 03When a matching pair is found, remove the pair from the board, give it to a manager, and place a tally beside the server's name.
  4. 04The player with the most matching pairs after all cards have been removed — or when the shift ends — wins!

Bonus rule. If a player sells multiple promotional items, they may take multiple turns. Players may only flip two cards at a time, returning them face down before beginning the next turn.
